We believe in cost effective legal services:
1. Consulting
At every stage of the legal problem solving, our office is available to advise, consult and provide information, suggest forms or procedures to help move your case along to resolution.
We can assist with a simple consultation by telephone, fax or e-mail.
Consulting can be as little as one half hour pre-paid, or as long as necessary on a retainer agreement, which in very complicated cases can involve many hours.
2. Strategy
At all stages of our providing assistance to you, we emphasize the goals of negotiation, mediation, compromise and being reasonable with the other side. This is always done in the context of the case law and with the full knowledge of the rights and responsibilities that both parties in any family law matter need to keep in mind.
All efforts of negotiations should be exhausted prior to entering into the legal system, which means court application or court responses.
Even if the other side has begun a court application, it may be possible to suggest to the other side that they put a hold on the case and that all efforts of negotiation be exhausted prior to returning to the court process.
Payment Procedures
We have three pre-paid categories of services:
Initial Consultation
A first consultation up to 30 minutes is $75.00, including taxes. This fee must be paid prior to the consultation taking place.
Ongoing Consultation
Should you require ongoing, sporadic consultations after the initial consultation, the cost is $90.00 per one-half hour per consultation, plus applicable taxes.
Representation
In the event your case is to be started through our office, or is well underway and you need help through a major step in the case, our office is available for a full engagement and full retainer relationship. At this point, Mr. Berman goes on the court record as your solicitor and will charge his normal hourly rate of $275.00, secured by a pre-paid lump sum retainer.
Note: Both the Ongoing Consultation and Representation options would require a signed retainer agreement.
Methods of Payment
We accept cash, cheque, money orders, VISA, Mastercard, and Interac. Arrangements can also be made to accept credit card payments via telephone or e-mail.
